Gameplay Overview

Snaky Cat is very similar to Snake.io. The controls are nearly identical, but the biggest difference is the inclusion of a timer. When you’re on a clock, it can limit your ability to have a high score and make you play more aggressive to get a higher score. Whereas without a timer, you can play more safely.

The length of your cat is increased as you eat donuts, which will increase your score. The powerups are also mice, which move around quite a lot. Often you need to chase them with a boost, which is different than other snake games where the powerups move very little.

Age Appropriateness

This game is rated for Everyone from the Android play store. The cats are adorable, which is sure to please children of all ages. There are strategies involved as well, so there is depth to this game for getting a high score.

Ease of Use & Accessibility

Touching the left side of the screen allows you to move the stick with the joystick. The red boost button allows you to go faster, but it uses up your score.

Educational Value

There is a bit of math involved with the score. When you eat donuts, it increases your score and when you use your boost, it subtracts it. You need to balance out the use of a boosts as you can’t use it constantly. You need to determine whether boosting to catch a mouse, avoiding a player, or getting donuts quickly is worth the cost of the boost.

Safety and Content

This game is rated for Everyone, but there are in-game purchases ranging from $1.39 – $139.99 CAD per item. You can upgrade your cat to help you get a higher score. You will get treats and red gems as you play, but buying it will be faster if you’re impatient.

The treats and red gems do give an unfair advantage over your opponents, since you can get a much higher score, get donuts faster, or extend your game timer. I would prefer a snakes game where there is a level playing field, instead of people paying for an advantage.

There are also options to watch ads to get in-game items or revive. Those ads may not be suitable for children, so parents may want to instruct children to skip them.

The game is multiplayer, but there’s no way to talk chat, so kids will be safe from unwanted messages.

Graphics & Design

The visuals are 2D and top down. The cats are very cute and is a pretty good variation of the snakes game. The decision to upgrade cats for better score and having a timer is something unique to this game, but some might prefer a more level playing field without a timer limiting their play time per match.

Price & Value for Money

This game is free to play, but you can pay to accelerate your progress. If you don’t want to pay for the game, then focus on getting your own personal high score, instead of competing with people that have high upgrades and dominate the leaderboard.

Replayability

This game is a nice, quick casual game, that can be played a lot. Trying to beat your high score or trying to take down other players is fun.
