Gameplay Overview

Winnie-The-Pooh Taste Test is a short trial version to give you a taste of what the full game will be. It is a 2D platformer which tests your reflexes with the familiar Winnie The Pooh character.

Age Appropriateness

You will need to hit bees, hedgehogs, and gophers with your paint brush. These cute creatures will become orange. There is no blood or sad noises as they perish.

The real difficulty comes from the platforming part. Jumping to the next platform is incredibly difficult, as you need to understand when to air dash and time your jumps. The finale has bouncy mushrooms that is quite challenging even for a veteran platformer player.

Due to the cartoon violence and platform difficulty, age 10+ is recommended. The Steam page does not list an official ESRB rating.

Ease of Use & Accessibility

The game is easy to understand, with simple keyboard controls that are explained at the beginning with a tutorial. If you’ve played platformer games before, the controls will be intuitive.

Children will likely need need assistance in certain parts. There is a part with a boulder rolling, which will require very precise jumping and dashing. It can be frustrating, since a child needs to perform jumps under pressure or they will perish.

Educational Value

There is problem solving involved in this game. You need to know when to jump, dash, and hit enemies. The timing is quite strict too. For example, if you rapidly press the paint brush to hit a creature, there is a cooldown which can allow the enemy to run into you. You need to precisely hit the creature when it is within your range.

There’s also some physics when the bees bounce of the walls. You need to be good at predicting where the bees will go based on the angle and speed at which they hit the wall. This predictive analysis is required to hit the bees with your paint brush without yourself getting hit.

Safety and Content

There are no mature themes, no in-app purchases or ads, and no multiplayer support. This is a single player player game which is free to play.

Graphics & Design

The visuals have a retro 2D feel, which can run on low end PCs.

Price & Value for Money

This game is free, so 100% worth the money 🙂

Replayability

Once you beat the game, you’ll likely not play the same levels again, since it’s quite difficult.

Gameplay

The following gameplay shows the run with all powerups and fully completing the game.

Overall Parent Experience

If your child finds children’s platformer games to be too easy, this is a nice introduction to platformers that can be difficult. If your child enjoys classic Winnie-The-Pooh, they will also enjoy taking playing as Pooh.
